Being Imposed Upon is a timeless love letter and manual by and for black women. This book is a collection of reflections on being a woman and being black in Belgium. In the two national languages Dutch and French, we, black women, unite non-fiction essays, literary reflections, poetry, activist and academic texts around our search for freedom. This book is a tribute to our elderly, our heroes and our sisters.
With this project, publiekEaCties initiated the development of a publication on feminism and decolonisation. A committee of Afro-Belgian female activists, writers and thinkers; Heleen Debeuckelaere, Gia Abrassart, Sabrine Ingabire, Anne Wetsi Mpoma, Modi Ntambwe and Tracy Bibo-Tansia focused on the question which feminist themes are underexposed in the current decolonisation debate in Belgium and how these might be implemented in the book. The audiovisual installation shows conversations in which they formulate their answer, which is also the blueprint of this publication.
